Stan and Ollie

Posted in classic movies by Thad on May 16th, 2008

Turner Classic Movies is running a whole 24 hours of classic Laurel & Hardy shorts on August 23rd. Set your Tivo.

Does anyone know if they’ll be running the restored versions that were released on that huge box set in Europe? TCM is usually on top of things like that, just as they were in fixing their schedule so that Them Thar Hills (1934) would air properly before its sequel Tit for Tat (1935).

Sad anecdote from my time here in a dorm in Pittsburgh. I was watching Sons of the Desert on [my] TV in the living room, and a roommate walks by asking, “Is this a TV show?” No comment.

That is FANTASTIC news! I think they last did that 3 years ago on April Fools’ Day. We didn’t have TCM here in Canada at that time. Must remember erase all my old PVR shows on the cable box.

Here’s another fine mess you’ve gotten me into, Thad!

    I have a funnier story!
On an Italian blog a guy described Looney Tunes as “one of best TV series ever, almost like Friends”.
    This’ the world today.

About L&H: I’m a great fan. Got 99,99% of their work as a team (I miss the original opening and closing titles of “The Flying Deuces”- but who does not?- and the “lost” titles)and a hundred or so of their solo works.

To not be too mean with him(her?),when I was a kid, on tv they used to show a pack of old (l&h)shorts under the banner “The Laurel and Hardy Show”….If you want to be “nice” you may consider he knew this “show”.

TCM is really the only reason why I’m not yet considering getting rid of my cable.
And I get those “anecdotes” often at school (”Bugs? Was he the rabbit with the dumb laugh?”).
